According to the Asian consultant,Chin-Ning Chu,
the Japanese people understand that the business world is
a battlefield and the success of the Japanese economy
influences the survival of the Japanese nation.
Japanese study the art of strategy from childhood on.
The Western and Japanese cultures are different. Skill
in deception is not a heroic quality to Westerners. The
samurai, on the other hand may not have scruples about
using deception to win. A sense of fair play has not
been engrained in their culture.
Chu emphasizes that strategic thinking is a discipline
exercised by people from all walks of life (see biblio-
graphy in HELP section). In particular Asians are
brought up with the "36 Strategies" of Sun Tzu. She
provides examples of the application of each strategy:
1 DECEIVE THE SKY AND CROSS THE OCEAN
2 SURROUNDING WEI TO RESCUE ZOO
3 BORROW ANOTHER'S HAND TO KILL
4 MAKE YOUR ENEMY WORK WHILE YOU WAIT AT LEISURE
